DJ Yoyok has a diverse style and that’s why he owns a surprising wide variety of records. You won’t often meet someone who spins hip-hop, disco, soul and funk, but on another occasion just as easily goes for steaming club classics, funky house, Detroit techno or even a slamming old-school set!
Yoyok van Beek (1977) was born in the small village of Sukorejo in East Java, Indonesia. When he moved to the Netherlands four years later Yoyok grew up in Schellinkhout, a town 50 km north of Amsterdam. When house music came about in the beginning of the nineties, the ‘soon to be DJ’ was a regular visitor of the Midtown, Distortion, Boudisque and Outland stores where he bought many kilos of vinyl: the start of an immense record collection!
In the past 15 years Yoyok has played at many different venues all across the Netherlands and abroad. In his home-city of Amsterdam, crowds have been dancing to his tunes at Westergasterras, Blijburg, ‘t Blauwe Theehuis, Strand West, Noorderlicht, Odessa and Belgique. But also massive techno parties like Awakenings, Tresor and Nature One are on Yoyok’s gigs-list.
Besides ‘turntabling’ you can find this versatile DJ often in his studio while producing techno tracks and disco remixes. While Yoyok definitely won’t say goodbye to the turntables, producing is one of his main goals for the next decade!
